New Wreck at Tioman

Tioman has finally a new wreck! The former Royal Malaysian Navy warship KM Sipadan was sunk on 29th March 2012 to become an artificial reef .

KM Sipadan was commissioned some 48 years ago under the name KD Sri Sawarak and the warship was later renamed as KM Sipadan. It was decommissioned to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in 2005 and prior to its sinking, it was cleaned as not to pollute the South China Sea and the engine as well as weapons were removed.

She is 31m long and 4.5m wide and lies now at the Sawadee dive site in some 30meters depth with the deck at around 25 meters. Sawadee is just south of ABC. It will soon be covered in marine life and we can’t wait until the marine park officially releases the wreck to divers which will happen once it is fully settled on the seabed.

Due to the depth of the wreck, it will be especially suitable for Nitrox, Wreck and Deep Specialty courses.
