Trip Report 28 January

19 divers all arrived on time at Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, Singapore, Saturday morning.  Well one was a little late and there was one no show, but we still departed at 7.20am.

We planned to do a dive at each Hantu wreck and Sudong wreck, but the conditions changed the plan.  We did dive the Hantu wreck, which is a small wooden bum boat.  It is 14-21m deep and you can still just make out the shape and the partly intact timber beams and planks.  There are loads of macro critters and a few fish, but you have to look hard to see them in limited viz and today was no different plus we had a strong current.

Once on the wreck and on the side out of the current, it was an ok dive with the normal things to see.  During the dive the current picked up a bit more so we all headed for the rope to complete our safety stop and return to the boat.  Some divers decided to also dive the sand next to the wreck and ascended away from the boat, but no worries the Seaborne Captain quickly collected them.

We took the mooring line at Sudong wreck and the first thing I noticed was that the current was lifting the dive deck ladders up a fair way.  I checked a few more things and decided it was safer not to dive this wreck today.  We headed for Hantu Jetty No. 2.

Hantu Jetty No. 2 was ok, but some current was still present.  Some divers saw a sea snake, others a few fish and crabs but no seahorses today.  A good day was had by all dispute the conditions, there was even time for a Nana nap for some.

David and Steve are working towards their PADI Master SCUBA Diver Certification and decided to complete the PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty during this trip. They managed well in the current with the scooters and enjoyed zipping about over the two dives.  PADI Master SCUBA Diver requires you to be a PADI Rescue Diver and complete 5 PADI Specialties.  Our theory session for this speciality was held prior to the trip at our “shop” and took about 1 hour.
