Scuba Diving Classes – It was the last weekend of 2017! What better way to round up a fantastic year than having a full board of over 20 students and leisure divers spend the weekend with us! Weather and currents conditions may not be forgiving last weekend, but everyone had a great time nonetheless. Company is all it matters when we meet like-minded friends on board and bonding with new found friends. We even rounded up the year with a spectacular fireworks display on Seaborne to usher in 2018. Diving Classes – Beautiful skies. Wonderful viz of 10-15m. Great company. These are factors to make our weekend trip an awesome one with a full board of Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue students and leisure divers on board Seaborne. We dived around Batam and explored the Codd Wreck, a 100-year-old F & N steel vessel which sunk off the Riau Islands. We were amazed by the beautiful marine life as always, and spotted pufferfish, stingrays, squid, crocodile flatheads, cuttlefish, lots of nudibranch and more. Basic Diving Courses Bintan – It was a truly memorable and fruitful weekend, as we went on an exploration dive trip to Pulau Abang and Pulau Pangkil with our leisure divers! We love exploring new dive sites around Bintan and Batam, as there’s such a huge potential with many beautiful sites yet to be discovered. Wonderful viz of over 10m with clear blue waters! Despite the monsoon season, currents are very mild in most of the sites we explored. What really amazed us is the beautiful underwater world there, with a significantly different marine life profile compared to the sites we used to frequent. It is a nudibranch heaven everywhere! Healthy and beautiful coral reefs! Spotted many other marine life such as scorpionfish, toadfish, giant cuttlefish, pufferfish amongst many others. We will be exploring Abang and Pangkil again over the next few weekends. Many thanks to all the divers on board Seaborne last weekend. PADI Course Batam – It was another weekend well-spent with our Advanced Open Water, Rescue students and leisure divers on board Seaborne to Nikoi Island! PADI Courses Batam – It was yet another awesome weekend dive trip to Nikoi Island with our Open Water students, leisure divers and GS-Diving crew! Beautiful weather, calm seas, interesting marine animals and new friendships forged are the perfect recipe for everyone to have a great time together. We spotted sea turtles, pufferfish, seahorse, nudibranch, octopus and cuttlefish amongst many others. Last weekend, we explored videography and photography with a drone for the first time (courtesy of one of our crew members) and the results are pretty amazing! Beginner Diving Course Batam – It was an unforgettable weekend because we missed diving with Seaborne when it underwent maintenance for the past three weeks! With our full board of 15 Open Water, Advanced Open Water students and leisure divers, we dived our favourite Sarawak Maru Wreck and beautiful reef sites in Nikoi Island. Last weekend was one of our best trips ever with a wonderful visibility of 10-15m! Everyone enjoyed the wreck dive the most, as most parts of the WWII Japanese Tanker could be seen with the great visibility and so much for divers to discover and explore. Advanced Diving Course Batam – It is the event of the year we are all looking forward to! PADI Women’s Dive Day took place on 15 July 2017 globally to celebrate women in diving through a fun day of bonding and camaraderie. GS-Diving participated in this year’s event for the first time with a 3D2N trip to Nikoi Island on our LOB Seaborne. To support our mission in raising awareness of clean oceans and environment, an underwater cleanup was incorporated to make the event more meaningful. All female (and male) divers also received a special Women’s Dive Day goodie bag and a sumptuous BBQ dinner. Many thanks to our official resort partner Nongsa Point Marina & Turi Beach Resort and retail partners Divesea, The Sugar Fairy Sg, The Ante Shop and The Miniature Kitchen for sponsoring gifts and vouchers for our goodie bags! A total of 7 dives were conducted over the weekend, with the highlight being an exploration of the mysterious Sarawak Maru Wreck.

Rescue Diver Course Batam – It’s the weekend trip we are all looking forward to at Nikoi Island! Great visibility of 8-10m and beautiful marine life. It was a fulfilling trip for all our photographers on board, who had so much fun with macro photography underwater. We explored the Sarawak Maru wreck, a WWII Japanese tanker which sunk in 1945. This wreck is largely intact with lots of marine life, with the opportunity to come face to face with a giant grouper if you are lucky! Rescue Diver Courses Batam – A wonderful adventure awaits at Nikoi Island over the weekend when we went wreck diving on Seaborne! With our full board of 14 Advanced Open Water students, leisure divers and GS crew, we went on an unforgettable adventure to explore the Sarawak Maru wreck, a WWII Japanese tanker which sank in 1945. Measuring over 120m in length and lying 30m underwater, it is amazingly huge with lots to explore. Besides hosting a myriad of beautiful corals and marine life, it’s also home to a giant grouper, about the size of a human being! Well, that’s something worth shouting out loud! Junior Diver Courses Batam – GS-Diving is constantly on the lookout for new dive sites to create new diving experiences and make our trips more interesting for all divers. On 4-6 June, our crew and some Open Water students went to Nikoi Island on Seaborne for a wreck exploration trip. We were beaming with joy when we spotted the Sarawak Maru wreck on the morning of 5 June! This WWII Japanese tanker which sunk in 1945 is about 121m long with the wreck still intact, wonderful for divers who love the thrill of exploring wrecks! Even spotted a giant and curious grouper which followed the group around. The max depth of the wreck site is about 28m, suitable for all Advanced Open Water divers and above.
Great visibility of 10-15m and beautiful marine life spotted at all the dive sites we visited. Saw lots of nudibranches, crabs, shrimps, puffer fish, cuttlefish, octopus and more with healthy corals!

Leisure Diving Trips – Despite the full moon on Saturday combined with monsoonal weather a few days prior our trip, we managed smiles over this weekend. I guess a bad day diving is better than a good day in the office!
Enjoying the fresh air with great company and the underwater world with nudibranchs, coral and assorted marine life. Unfortunately the water was a little greener than normal this weekend, but it didn’t dampen our spirits.

Our weekend liveaboard diving trips from Singapore are perfect for those who do not want to take time off work but still want to take a break. The Riau Archipelago is to the south of Singapore and includes the islands of Bintan, Batam and Nikoi. We head even further south of these two main islands to where the reefs are remote and although there are numerous islands, few are inhabited aside from occasional local fishing communities, it’s almost like sailing back in time.

GS-Diving has years of experience of diving these reefs, which in most parts, offer a pristine mix of hard and soft corals combined with abundant and varied marine life. Species that we commonly see during these trips include; frogfish, a variety of different nudibranch, barracuda, jacks, fusiliers, damselfish, clownfish, pipefish, parrotfish, angelfish, triggerfish, butterflyfish and sting rays. Conditions are good all year round and with generally calm seas our weekend trips are suitable for all levels of divers. If you are a wreck diving enthusiast the area is also home to a number of World War II wrecks which are easily accessible as they lay at relatively shallow depths.
Seaborne Liveboard Facilities
The Seaborne live on board vessel is a 17 metre long wooden boat which offers simple yet comfortable bunk accommodation in a choice of twin or quad share cabins. On board are two shared bathrooms, large dive deck, sunroof with loungers and shaded areas, dining area and a separate indoor saloon with a large TV and DVD facilities. With only 14 divers on board you’ll have plenty of space and the trips are always a lot of fun!

Nikoi & Riau Islands Liveaboard Diving Packages and Schedule
Our meeting point for these liveaboard diving trips from Singapore is Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT) at 07.30pm on Friday evenings and from there, we take the fast ferry to Nongsapura Ferry Terminal in Indonesia where we board the Seaborne (LOB). We return to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal at 8.00pm on Sunday nights. Our prices start from S$468 for our 6 dive weekend package and fast ferry tickets are included in the price.
