With Christmas bearing down, everyone decided this weekend would be their last dives for 2014. I had a total of 60 divers booked over the 4 trips, Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon sessions. There were other boats around too. I estimated over 100 divers at Hantu that weekend. And with good management the dive sites were not overcrowded!
For those not familiar with Hantu, it is a local island located just 35 minutes from Singapore’s Republic of Singapore Yacht Club at West Coast Ferry Road. It is not unusual to have divers testing camera gear or getting familiar with new equipment in readiness for a big overseas trip either.
The tides restricted us to The Wreck and Outer Reef in the morning and The Northern Reef and The Jetty in the afternoon. Loads of good sightings, including the turtle (which we have been seeing every week), toadfish, pipefish, clown fish and 100’s of nudi’s, to keep the macro shooters happy too.
The only student I had was Yvonne doing her Open Water Presentation for her PADI Assistant Instructor Course. Once we competed that and for the rest of the weekend, I spent most of the time helping people in and out of the water. I think I did 3 dives the whole weekend.
Cheers, Gary Savins
