Trip Report 15-19 June 2014

I had a great time in Bali teaching a family of four the PADI Open Water Diver Course.  They had planned to complete this back in December 2013 but Iffa had an ear infection and was unable to dive. So we postponed it to their next school break in June 2014.

We completed the theory and exam prior in Singapore.

We flew out from Singapore on Sunday and after the 3 hour flight and 3 hour bus ride to Tulamben, we relaxed for the rest of the day ready for a long day in the pool.  The pool session on Monday lasted from 9am to 5pm with a lunch break.  It was a long day with wrinkled hands, but we got through it all with some challenges.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we completed 3 dives each day at the Drop Off. The wind created large waves at all other dive sites, which made it difficult for my students to enter the water.  The Drop Off was the only place with calm waters and even there, some people fell over and I had to help them up.

After 6 dives in awesome viz and amazing fish life, Iffa, Illy and Mohammed completed their PADI Open Water Diver Courses.  Congratulations! Norazah will try again later. She was very nervous and could not dive.

On Tuesday after the course dives were done, I grabbed a Nitrox 32 tank from the shop and did a 60 minute dive on the Liberty Wreck. I only saw two other people at the wreck.  It was awesome. I love the Liberty Wreck especially without a crowd.  Please don’t try this at home. Solo diving can only be done by those that are trained to do so and who have the right equipment.

The Tulamben Wreck Diver Resort renovation (that we had to endure in December) is now completed and it is really nice with two new pools and 6 new rooms. I can’t wait to return again, this coming December.

Cheers – Gary
