I decided to try Sibu, Malaysia for a weekend of diving and was happy with the outcome.
This trip was for an international school and I also had three other customers, who also joined.
We all left the school Friday at 3.30pm and were in the resort lobby by 6.30pm after a bus ride through Singapore and Malaysia immigration and a short boat ride to Sibu.
The boat ride was … well … wet. The seas were a bit choppy and everyone in my boat was soaked. Nothing a quick shower and a change of clothes, at the resort could not fix.
I had a busy couple of days ahead of me with 4 PADI Rescue Diver Students and 3 PADI Advanced Open Water Students.
Julius my new PADI Dive Master Trainee joined us too.
On Saturday morning we headed out and did two dives around the dive site called Dolly. The viz was good, at least 15 metres and there were loads of fish. The water was clear and not milky either.
I have not dived Dolly since May 2013.
I did loads of underwater rescue skill with my students, panicked divers and out of air drills. The advanced guys did their deep dive at Dolly.
In between the two dives we relaxed at a nice beach and the rescue students did loads of rescues scenarios.
We then did a day and night dive at the local house reef. It was good with viz up to 8 metres. The cuttlefish were busy mating and placing their eggs under rocks. And of course, more skills, more skills and more skills.
On Sunday morning, we had a nice lay in and did one dive at 11am on the house reef again. The viz had reduced slightly to 5 metres, but we saw more cuttlefish, schooling rabbit fish and trevally. After the final rescue skills, we exited the water.
After a quick lunch, we packed the gear up and boarded the boat for our journey home. We left the resort at 2pm and I was home at 7pm. I love this short journey!
Well done to Kith, Gerald and Nguyet for completing their PADI Advanced Open Water Courses. Also well done to Peter, Mihr (Flippers), Favian (the Mexican) and Nina for completing their PADI Rescue Diver Courses too.
