Combine Your Love of Travel with a PADI Course

PADI CourseCombine Your Love of Travel with a PADI Course

As much as we love our local dive sites here in Singapore, the GS-Diving team also love to travel. We are very privileged to have so many great dive spots right on our door step and we’ve spent years exploring them and travelling into pristine areas that have never been dived before. Our team continues to explore and are passionate about sharing these sites with our divers when they sign up for a PADI Course with us.

Exploring Local Dive Sites

The Southern Reefs of Bintan and Batam are part of the Riau Archipelago – small islands and remote fishing villages that make you feel like you are travelling back in time. Best of all however is the existence of phenomenal diving on the pristine reefs, with few other divers around and abundant marine life. If you are an underwater photographer this is an exceptional area with endless photography opportunities. If you’re looking to develop your camera skills or to get started in underwater photography it’s possible to take the PADI Digital Underwater Photography course during your trip. You’ll come back with images that will be the envy of your buddies!

The Southern Reefs of Singapore are also home to a number of World War II era wrecks which are at relatively shallow depths. These wrecks provide habitat for numerous species of fish, critters, corals and are great for exploring. If you are new to wreck diving we recommend you take the PADI Wreck Diver Adventure dive during your trip so you maximise your time underwater.  You’ll learn some great tips and techniques for diving on ship wrecks including new finning techniques, how to assess a wreck for hazards and how to navigate. This Adventure dive will also count towards one of the 5 Adventure dives needed for your PADI Advanced Open Water Certification. If you want to go “all the way” and complete the full Advanced Open Water course during your trip, that’s possible too!

Exploring Indonesia

Did you know that Pulau Mapor in Indonesia is the largest offshore island in the Bintan group and is also home to several wrecks? Pulau Mapor is a great destination for divers wanting to take a closer look at wreck diving and complete the full PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course. During your course you will not just see incredible marine life, you’ll learn how to safely assess a wreck for penetration possibilities. Once you have your wreck diving specialty you’ll only need 4 more (plus PADI Rescue Diver) to become a PADI Master Scuba Diver – the equivalent of the black belt in diving!

As well as Bintan, Batam and Mapor in Indonesia we also dive around Northern Lingga which offer a mix of rock pinnacles, sloping reefs and the SS Kung Wo Wreck with great visibility and the chance to see black tip reef sharks.

Other GS Diving Dive Trips

All of our trips to overseas destinations are great fun, well organised with the focus on you and your diving. If you are trying to decide between taking a PADI course with us or a dive trip, it’s easy – just combine the two so that you get the maximum benefit (and fun) out of your program. Just let us know which PADI course you are thinking of and we can recommend the best destination to suit your requirements.

Check out the exciting overseas dive sites we visit and to see which PADI course you’d like to combine with your trip, check our full list of PADI courses.

Basic Dive Courses Riau – Trip Report 26 to 27 November 2016 – Seaborne (Live on Board)

Basic Dive Courses Riau – We visited the Kerang Gelang dive site and Codd Wreck with a visibility of up to 8m. Schools of yellow tail fishes and small cuttlefish were spotted during the sunset dive. Not forgetting another huge cuttlefish and three sea turtles!

Here is Gary’s Bio for your perusal:

PADI MSDT Instructor # 374536
+65 9800 0539
gary@gs-diving.com

Born in Singapore, Gary Lim started diving in 2015 after a 20 year stint as a Project Engineer in the construction industry.  What started out as a hobby soon became a passion and life-long career for him.

Gary’s Open Water Diver certification in 2015 was a turning point in his life, and he has never looked back since.  His love for the underwater world and marine life prompted him to plunge into this new-found career.

Since then, he has attained his certifications as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Rescue Diver and PADI DiveMaster.  With a strong desire to face the challenges in diving, he pushed his limits and became a PADI Instructor in September 2016.  This allows him to teach students up to the levels of PADI DiveMaster.

While the sky’s the limit, the beautiful ocean has no limits to Gary.  There are endless possibilities in every diving trip and ‘no one dive is the same’.  His fascination with the ocean presents a myriad of imaginations and joy he has never experienced before.  To him, exploring the ocean is an appreciation of God’s beautiful creations.

As a PADI Instructor, he hopes to share his passion and joy with students to explore the beautiful underwater world because the depths of the sea introduces a new world which a non-diver would never see.

Gary would soon be pursuing his certification as a PADI IDC Staff Instructor in 2017.

Trip Report 18 September 2016 (DiveSingapore)

Luckily the storm cleared from the previous night and we enjoyed great visibility diving in Singapore’s backyard at a local island called Hantu. Viz was easily 8 to 10 metres. Everyone dived in buddy teams for two morning dives and successfully saw many residents like nudibranchs, pipefish, hard coral and batfish. One team even saw the seahorse. Sand storms were kept to a minimum as divers ensured that they didn’t really fin, but floated slowly along the reef looking for little critters.
