Basic Diving Courses – We are back at Nikoi for the start of the new dive season. It was awesome diving with everyone last weekend! We dived at our favourite Sarawak Maru wreck and were blessed with a wonderful viz of 15-20m. What interesting critters we spotted, especially during the night dive. Turtles, black tip sharks, seahorses, octopus, cuttlefish, squids, nudibranch, moray eels and more. PADI Dive Courses – Happy weekend! Guess where we hung out this weekend? We are back in Tioman Juara with our partner Scuba Do for the opening of the dive season…woohoo! Check out our website for upcoming weekend trips and PADI dive courses!

Juara beach on Tioman Island is the very definition of paradise an awesome, wonderful peaceful getaway, and it’s started to get more and more attention, and visitors, in recent years, it is still resisting the mass development that has engulfed the rest of the islands in the region.

If someone told you to imagine a tropical paradise, then you would probably think of South East Asia, a vast region filled with idyllic tropical islands. Then you would immediately conjure up images of white sand beaches framed by lush, tropical jungle, palm trees swaying in a warm breeze and clear cerulean seas filled with wildlife. Then you would try to forget the hordes of package tourists and concrete hotels and resorts that are infesting more and more of these islands every year and try to imagine instead a local village atmosphere, with just a few small beach huts to stay in and barely another soul around.

Well you don’t need to imagine, just come join us to find out more about this awesome small beach – Juara Beach!

Dive Maldives – Final part of our video to Maldives on board MV Ocean Sapphire. With beautiful blue and clear waters at 15-20m visibility, it’s every diver’s paradise! We visited the Manta Point at Meemu Atoll and came up close and personal with our giant flappy friends. Lots of shark dives as always during channel diving and other marine life such as schools of barracuda, tuna, giant sting rays, eagle rays, giant moray eels, napolean wrasse, bumphead parrotfish and more!

Dive Maldives – Besides the wonderful diving, we also went on a sunset fishing trip and even had an awesome BBQ dinner on an uninhibited island! Not forgetting the late night parties every night!

What was most amazing was the wonderful hospitality and service provided by the staff and dive crew on board. They are always so warm and friendly and never fail to render any assistance we need. A very big thank you to Martina, Alessio, Daniela, Teseo, Ali (our hammerhead DM) and all crew on board!

A million thanks to the crazy bunch of 12 divers who joined us this trip. It wouldn’t be so fantastic without you! The most unforgettable dive trip we had with endless nonsensical fun, humour, partying sessions and chilling on the dive deck! 🙂

Diving Maldives – It was a dive trip of a lifetime to #Maldives on MV Ocean Sapphire, a luxurious 35m liveaboard operated by Top Class Cruising. With a group of 12 fun-loving and enthusiastic divers, we made our way to Maldives for a 8D7N dive safari, looking forward to an awesome time #diving together! With a spacious diving dhoni, beautiful cabins, cosy sundeck, jacuzzi, bar, exceptional hospitality by staff and crew and more, this liveaboard definitely exceeded our expectations!

The itinerary started from central Male to the Deep South of Maldives, spanning through multiple beautiful atolls such as Vaavu, Felidhoo, Meemu and Thaa before finally ending at Laamu. Each atoll has its own unique character, with lots of channel and drift diving. Diving was wonderful…clear blue waters with visibility of 15-20m, beautiful marine life and unspoiled corals, what more can we ask for? It was sharks, sharks and more sharks every dive! We also spotted manta rays, eagle rays, giant sting rays, giant octopus, tuna, bumphead parrotfish, moray eels, turtles, schools of barracuda and lots more!

The most unforgettable dive was the night dive at Alimatha Jetty, where we came up close and personal with huge nurse sharks! We also visited sandbanks on some days, with pristine white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and beautiful sunsets…wow!

PADI Diving Course – Huat ah! We organised a special 3D2N CNY departure from 4-6 February on Seaborne to Batam. Had an amazing time spending our Chinese New Years with a full board of students and leisure divers. Basic Diving Courses Singapore – It’s the first diving weekend of 2019, and also our first Birthday celebration of 2019, for our Creative and Marketing Director, Vivien Tan. What creates mysterious circles on the seafloor? No, it’s not aliens of the deep—it’s actually pufferfish hoping to snag a mate, a new study says.

Divers first noticed the 6.5-foot-wide (2-meter-wide) circular structures near Japan‘s Amami-Oshima Island about 20 years ago. But no one knew how these so-called mystery circles were constructed—or what was creating them—until now.

The circles, scientists say, are actually nests created by male pufferfish, which spend about ten days carefully constructing and decorating the structures to woo females. What’s more, this industrious pufferfish is thought to be a new species in the Torquigener genus, according to the study, published July 1 in the journal Scientific Reports.

Nesting Instinct

The male fish, which measures less than 5 inches (13 centimeters) long, first uses his body to create peaks and valleys in the sandy bottom around a central circle of smooth sand. He accomplishes this feat by swimming in toward the center of the circle in a straight line and then back around the center in a circular motion.

Before the female fish arrive to inspect his handiwork, the male forms irregular patterns in the fine sand particles of the central circle. He also decorates the peaks of the outer portion with shell and coral fragments.

When a potential female partner arrives on the scene, the male stirs up the fine sand in the nest’s inner circle. If she deems the nest, and the male who built it, satisfactory, she lays her eggs in the center of the nest and leaves.

Sister’s Island Marine Park

SINGAPORE – The Republic’s largest man-made reef structure to date was installed on Thursday (Nov 8) in the waters off the 3ha Small Sister’s Island. Which is south of Sentosa and about a 45-minute boat ride from Marina South Pier.

It is part of an installation that comprises eight reef structures in total, all fabricated off-site. They will be fully installed by the end of 2018.

When the corals grow, these reef structures are expected to contribute some 1,000 sq m of additional reef substrate to the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park by 2030.

The structures will sit in the 40ha Sisters’ Islands Marine Park, about the size of 50 football fields, which comprises the Big Sister’s Island and the Small Sister’s Island and their surrounding reefs, as well as the western reefs of nearby St John’s Island and Pulau Tekukor.

They are made of materials including concrete, fibreglass pipes, steel and rocks recycled from other JTC projects. Each structure includes nooks and crannies within which various fish species and other forms of sea life may find shelter and thrive.

To date, there has not been a reef installation on a larger scale in Singapore.

PADI Scuba Diving Courses – We dived at Nikoi Island and Batam last weekend with another full board.  Open Water, Advanced Open Water students and leisure divers. Mother nature has been kind to us. Despite threatening dark clouds, the storm didn’t come to us except for slight drizzles. Which allowed everyone to enjoy their dives nonetheless. Loads of fantastic time networking with fun-loving divers, great food and awesome diving. As we explored both the Sarawak Maru Wreck and Codd Wreck. Lots of great spotting as always… Turtles, blue-spotted rays, moray eels, octopus, cuttlefish and not forgetting a giant grouper we found at the Codd Wreck!

Chartered Dive Trip – We organised a chartered trip for a local organisation to Nikoi Island and Batam on Seaborne last weekend. Wrecks of Indonesia – How many wreck dives can you do on a weekend? We explored both the Igara and Sarawak Maru wreck last weekend, 4 wreck dives in total! Lady luck was on our side, 15-20m viz at Igara Wreck and 8-10m viz at Sarawak Maru Wreck! To sum it all up, everyone had an awesome time networking with fellow divers and even more fun exploring both wrecks. Need we mention our signature BBQ dinner on Saturday night, which satisified all our hunger pangs after an enjoyable night dive? Thank you to all the cool wreck divers who joined us last weekend! Wreck Diving – It was the wreck exploration dive trip everyone was looking forward to! With our full board of leisure divers and Advanced Open Water and Rescue students, we headed for two wreck dives – Igara and Sarawak Maru Wreck. This is something we’ve never attempted before, and we have carefully planned the itinerary to deliver both famous wrecks in the Riau Islands to our enthusiastic divers! Visibility was wonderful at about 15m with lots of beautiful marine life. Everyone had an awesome time exploring the wrecks and bonding during meal times. Look out for our next wreck exploration trip coming your way on 31st Aug – 2nd Sept’18!

Riau Islands – We spent another well-deserved weekend with our Open Water students and leisure divers to Nikoi Island last weekend. Fun is an understatement when everyone had a groovy time diving the Sarawak Maru Wreck and other beautiful sites in Lagoi and Nikoi Island. Visibility was wonderful at 10-15m with lots of spottings! We were so pleasantly surprised when we saw a Guitar Shark during our first dive! Our first time spotting this rare and beautiful creature diving in the Riau Islands. Diving Trips – One of our best diving trips this season! With our full board of over 15 Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue students and leisure divers on Seaborne, we went on an expedition to our favourite Nikoi Islands. Viz was wonderful between 12-15m, making diving at the Sarawak Maru Wreck and reef sites so awesome. The best surprise last weekend was when our group of divers spotted a school of over 20 Bump Heads at a reef site, our first encounter with these beautiful marine animals in Nikoi! While others fly to Tulamben in Bali to swim with Bump Heads at the USAT Liberty Wreck, we could find them in Nikoi! What more can we ask for! A million thanks to all who joined us last weekend!
